Decorating With Books

Some of my favorite things to incorporate into my decor around the house are books. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors so they make great home accessories. The grocery store near my house opened a consignment bookstore so I made it a point to visit every opportunity I got over the past month.
Here are some of the books I scored (all under $10, some under $5!)

BTW if you are looking for some Interior Design inspiration, this book has gorgeous photos.
Ways that I dress tables up with books:
You can never go wrong by adding a bouquet of fresh flowers, or in my case, a single rose.
This stack of fashion and beauty books is currently in my makeup room.

I love using books to tie a room theme together.

Here I was going for a Shabby Chic Theme. I found all three of the books at the same consignment store and picked up the pencils made out of tree branches from Home Goods (have I mentioned how obsessed I am with that store?!?) The puffy flower ball is also from there.
I love rotating books in and out of my coffee table. I actually coordinate the books with the color of flowers that I am using – Does that make me totally weird?
I had this owl laying around for some time now and I couldn’t figure out what to do with it until one day I sat it on top of this stack of books and realized it actually looked pretty neat – You know, like it was totally done on purpose. I’m sure you all have one of those cute knick knacks that you bought but have no clue what to do with -You’re welcome for the brilliant idea! 😉
The little penguins were the cake toppers from my wedding. I love them soooo much and I just had to display them somehow. I know they are way too small for bookends, but I don’t care! I actually like the contrast between the really tall books and the really small book ends 😀
Of course, there is no need to go out and buy new books – most of us have plenty laying around. Just in case you don’t here are some tips for shopping at a consignment bookstore:
Tips for Shopping at Consignment Bookstores
  1. Sign up for their email club or rewards program – they often send out coupons for even bigger savings! I used a 40% off coupon to purchase the Paris Book in the photo above 😉
  2. Go in comfortable clothes (preferably jeans and flats) and prepare to get down and dirty! JK, but if you really want to find that perfect book at a bargain price you may need to do some squatting (unless you have super sonic vision and can read the titles from far away).
  3. Last but not least, try to check back at least once a week bc they are constantly restocking their inventory – heck, if you have the time go twice a week!
