Hi, I’m Liz!

a home cook, and creator behind Letters from My Kitchen.

I was born in Panamá, where I grew up watching my abuelita work her magic in the kitchen from sunrise to sunset. It felt like something was always simmering, and back then, I remember thinking that’s never going to be me. I had no interest in cooking, cleaning or getting married.

Oh, the irony.

Now I cook for three men, my husband and two boys, somewhere along the way I realized that cooking was my abuelita’s way of showing love. Whenever something was wrong, she’d fix it with a bowl of sancocho (or Vicks LOL!).

So you see, cooking was always in my blood. The urge finally kicked in during my college years, shortly after I moved into my first apartment. I didn’t watch much TV back then, but one day I turned it on for a little background noise, and there was Emeril, live on screen. I was instantly hooked. I had never seen anyone use that much garlic in my life! That may be where my own love of garlic came from!

I started experimenting here and there, and not long after, I met my husband. That’s when my love for cooking truly took off. I found so much joy in surprising him with romantic dinners at home and little café-style lunches. He still loves to tell the story that my chicken cordon bleu is the reason he proposed.

After we got married, I began sharing bits of my life online, mostly beauty and lifestyle content at first. But one day, I posted a recipe for my family’s favorite green bean casserole, and everything changed. My subscribers made it, loved it, and began asking for more. Before I knew it, I was sharing recipes more than anything else. What started as a simple hobby turned into a way to connect and share my love for food with others.

Fast forward to today, I created Letters from My Kitchen as a space for anyone who loves food that feels special. I think of every dish as a letter, some written in a hurry after a long, chaotic day and others carefully crafted when time slows down and I get to pour love into every detail. Each one has a purpose and each one comes from the heart.

Through this space, I hope to remind others that food doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. Whether it’s a cozy weeknight dinner or a last-minute meal, there’s beauty in feeding the people we love. Food is my way of saying I love you, and my hope is that the recipes here help you savor the little moments that matter most.
